Benefits Of Using GPU Cards

20 February 2018

Many intensive applications require high computing power and users are turning to GPU over CPU computing power, but what benefit does GPU computing power have over CPUs?

The GPUs capabilities were originally designed for 3D game rendering, so there’s no surprise that GPUs can complete the decoding and transcoding process of higher definition video streams faster than traditional CPUs. Higher resolution for 4K and 8K video have led to increases in the use of GPUs outside of their original purpose.

Current GPU models contain thousands of cores capable of trillions of operations per second, accelerating the rate at which the calculations can be completed. A GPU can perform the same operation over and over again at a much faster rate than a CPU. These GPUs can process floating point arithmetic much faster than a traditional CPU used in today’s systems. GPUs are now being deployed in different environments where parallel processing is required, such as artificial intelligence, scientific calculations, engineering, finance and data mining.
